As you can see, I’m moving slowly through the conference. I’m doing this for a few reasons: one, it allows to me process the information before I blog; two, it fills up multiple days; and three, it give you all the opportunity to see, read and comment on the particular session or workshop.
Day One Workshops – “Bridging the Divide”
This was a panel workshop discussing “How creation care can help Christians find common ground with secular environmentalists”. The Panelist included Lyndsay Mosely, Sierra Club; Rhys Roth, Climate Solutions; and JN, Vineyard Boise LTTG Ministry Leader.
The main issues or comments that came out of this workshop are:
- Talk to each other – don’t cut of the lines of communications
- Be real about your values and faith –Help secular groups overcome their fears of Christian ‘radicals’ by letting them know that while your there as an outreach, your not going to run around passing out tracks and preaching to everyone. Your there to work.
- Do the stuff – secular groups can help churches get involved by staying away from political issues and scheduling events that allows believers to get the hands dirty.
I enjoyed most of this workshop; however, towards the end it turned into a “bash dispensationalist” meeting. It was very sad to see workshop disincarnate into a theology debate among believers… Luckily it did not stay that way, but came back to the main reason for the workshop – helping secular and Christian groups work together to care for the environment.
